  • University of Florida Center for Leadership and Service—Gainesville, Fla.

November 2014 – Present

The Center for Leadership and Service at the University of Florida provides educational programs, workshops and conferences; coordinates community service, leadership, and service learning opportunities for students. As a graphic design intern, projects include to create, edit, and develop graphics and layouts for program and event flyers, brochures, posters, internal logos, and online graphics.

  • Advantage Publishing, Inc. —Gainesville, Fla.

January 2014 – November 2014

Worked at a full-service publishing agency currently printing HOME and Business magazines, digital newsletters and an online business directory for the city of Gainesville. As a graphic design intern, assignments include design advertisements for the company’s magazines and upcoming event items.

  • WUFT News —Gainesville, Fla.

August 2013 – December 2013

As part of an editing course at UF, students were incorporated and became staffers for WUFT.org. It is a journalism platform that covers radio, television and web news in 16 north central Florida counties. Students in this class were assigned to be editors and writers for the web and radio portions of the organization. As web producers we worked a weekly four-hour shift editing WUFT News reporter’s stories and worked with them to improve their articles. Also wrote content for WUFT.org and edited video on Final Cut Pro shot by fellow reporters. As a writer, a fellow journalist and I unraveled citizen concerns with city government in a nearby town.

  • The Gainesville Sun —Gainesville, Fla.

August 2013 – Present

Reporting intern for The Gainesville Sun newspaper. Wrote up to two feature and event stories weekly. This experience led me to work with artists from all over the country as well as locals in order to inform readers of concerts, non-profit projects and unforgettable survivor stories.

  • The Tampa Tribune —Tampa, Fla.

June 2013 – July 2013

Worked as a reporting intern covering obituaries, weather, crime and feature stories for the southern and eastern Hillsborough County neighbors section as well as the metro section for The Tampa Tribune. Learned indispensable journalism skills while working alongside professional reporters who have been in the industry for many years.

  • Alachua County Today —Alachua, Fla.

January 2013 – April 2013

Today Writer for the Alachua County Today weekly newspaper, which covers all cities except Gainesville in Alachua County. Covered a range of stories including hard and soft news, events, features and city commission meetings for all of Archer, Fla. and other cities in Alachua County. This internship served an important stepping stone transition from student newspaper writer to city reporter.

  • The Independent Florida Alligator — Gainesville, Fla.

January 2012 – December 2012

Contributing Writer for the largest student-run newspaper in the nation, with a daily circulation of 35,000 and readership of over 52,000 students and Gainesville residents. Worked with university and metro editors who assigned news, feature, event coverage and survey articles relating to the University of Florida and the city.

  • Holbrook Travel — Gainesville, Fla.

January 2012 – April 2012

Intern for the marketing team. This company along with university courses helped build a learning structure as a journalist. During this first internship, the tasks assigned varied from: copy editing and fact-checking booklets and program packages; writing feature articles about traveler and staff adventures; and designing and editing flyers using InDesign, and videos using iMovie. Also managed the company’s blog website, Twitter and YouTube accounts and created travel presentations on SlideRocket for staff and clients.

September 2011 – April 2012

During first semester in college, began writing several pieces to the number one online and offline community for college women. Worked as a contributing writer covering news and feature stories, and took photos for the articles.

  • Noticias WUFT-FM 89.1 — Gainesville, Fla.

September 2011 – December 2011

During first semester in college, worked as a staff writer with fellow journalism students for the university Spanish radio station during its second year since launching. Wrote two to three national and international news briefs in Spanish every other week. Briefs were gathered from top-rated news stations from around the world including the AP; and were translated from English to Spanish.
