The city of Archer started installing new water meters on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, in hopes of solving past issues with people getting over billed. Several residents lived without water for up to a year because they could not pay for their bill.

Community gains extra eyes with Waste Pro
Waste Pro-Tection, a program where Waste Pro drivers keep a look out on the community in Archer was adopted in the April 8 city commission meeting.
Waste Pro began a community watch program in partnership with Alachua County through the Business On the Look Out, said Dayna Miller, Waste Pro municipal marketing manager.
Archer moves elections to spring
In a 4-1 vote, on April 8, 2013 the Archer City Commission passed an ordinance changing the City’s municipal elections to the spring.
It was previously held on the second Tuesday of November, the same day as the national and state elections.
Archer bike trail to open in spring
The six-mile Archer Road Biking/Walking Trail that will run along Archer Road is set to open by the end of spring or early summer, depending on how the weather affects construction, said Laurie Windham, spokesperson for the project.
Yulee Day kicks off with cannon fire
Saturday morning a cannon was fired several times in Archer’s downtown. That 150-year old cannon from the Civil War era, however, was part of the Yulee Railroad Day celebration.

Archer considers moving municipal elections to spring
The city of Archer in Alachua County recently decided to draft an ordinance, or law, to move its city elections from the fall to spring. Commissioners voted 5-0 for the new election date during a city commission meeting on Monday.
